From Sprawl To Crawl

Grace is on the move.

In a new and very exciting way.

She's been crawling on her belly now for months, and has been crawling on her hands and knees with very little assistance for a while.  But this weekend it all clicked and she started crawling on her hands and knees all by herself!

This is a HUGE accomplishment for The Gracer.  Her physical therapist told us that this was the hardest milestone for a child with Down syndrome by far.  Take small (and in some cases, quite pudgy) hands, add short arms and low muscle tone and you've got a big disadvantage.  But crawling is an important step in the developmental sequence, because it develops coordination and core stability needed for more efficient walking. This PT mom couldn't be prouder!

Now to figure out how her size 3-6 month feet are going to hold up her 75th percentile body....

  3. Grace, what an accomplishment! You will be exploring all of the rooms where you live - Mommy and Daddy will have to start shutting doors and watch what they leave on the floor.

  10. Yay Gracie!! Such an important step. It took forever for Arina to crawl like that. It actually seemed like walking was easier than crawling!
