Home Sweet Hotel

After 14 days, we are out of the hospital!! WOOHOO!!!!! Leg warmers for everyone! YOU get some leg warmers, YOU get some leg warmers!

(We would have taken more pictures outside the hospital but right after we took this one, a security guard told us no pictures on the property were allowed. Not sure what that was all about)

Grace is celebrating by being carried anywhere she wants without being tied down to monitors by wires, by wearing footie pajamas, now that there is no pulse ox reader or blood pressure cuff on her leg and foot and by animatedly going over all the details of these last 2 weeks in her pack-n-play with her buddy. She celebrated wildly by promptly going to sleep in her first stroller ride in more than two weeks.

We had hoped to spend tonight at my parents, but they still didn't have power so we stayed another night in the hotel. It's not home, or even familiar, but it beats being in the hospital another night. No more beeps and boops, no more interruptions by the nurses at 12am and 4am to take vitals, no more chest X-rays and blood draws at 6am and no more sleeping on a vinyl couch.

We have Grace's medicine lined up on the TV stand, next to the spreadsheet that shows them all, along with the times and amounts to give. I should have paid more attention in Excel class. We still unfortunately have a 4am medicine each night, but that is only for one week. And none of the medicines taste like candy, so we bought some cherry syrup to mix with the nastier stuff.

We have a follow-up next Tuesday with the CHOP cardiologist, which will give us a final look at this health chapter before we head home for good.

This is the day we have been waiting for during the past two weeks, and it feels just as good as we thought it would.

  9. Grace,it is now WEd. on the East Coast, so happy 5 month birthday. You are truly amazing, Grace. In 5 months you have already survived a serious heart operation, aan earthquake, a hurricanbe and hundreds of love bombs. You have experienced more and influenced more people in 5 months than most people do in a life time. The significance of your life will, and already has, counted for eternity. Philippians 1:3&6 for sure! Jesus loves you and I love you.
