Grace had a bit of a tough day today. All celebrated southern hemisphere activity slowed down today, and she was left with a distended belly, a decreased appetite and lots of discomfort. Luckily, her cuteness distracted people from noticing her bloated tummy:
This cuteness, however, did not keep her from feeling some pain today. It's hard for a mama to see sweet little blue eyes looking up with a perfected "what's going on and how could you let this happen" look followed by wails of discomfort. What's kept us sane is remembering that the smiling face that occupied Graceland just last week was a much sicker babe than the sad face that's temporarily replaced it.
Because of her discomfort, she's not eaten well today. The combo of this decreased intake and the decreased outflow has earned her an extra night in the CICU. She's currently scheduled to move to the step down unit tomorrow at some point, which is still Speed Gracer pace and ahead of the schedule we were told to expect.
We had her opthalmology consult today, and her eyes look good - no problems with the corneas. She still is sleeping with her eyes open more than usual, but that is decreasing and we'll follow up in the Fall with someone in New York. We're hoping to get the hearing consult first thing in the morning.
Between her bouts of letting us know exactly how she feels about all this hospital nonsense, Grace has been sleeping well wrapped up in the love and prayers from all of you.
Well, I personally think that Precious Gracie Grace is entitled to feel a bit punk. After all she has done all that has been asked of her thus far and she's even working hard to beat the doctor's time schedule, so just keep on loving and doting on her and dressing her as a glamour baby and tomorrow will be brighter. That old gas and those beloved poopies will start up again and the belly should go down. The first couple of days after any surgery are the worst, I think. It's funny huh, to be welcoming and wishing for those stinky things because they are so important to her recovery. I can't believe how you all just stay in our thoughts and prayers. One day I'm going to meet Precious Grace and marvel in the wonder of her life. Loving you from California!

What a little fighter you've got there! So much spunk in such a tiny little body. Here's hoping she gets her pooping mojo back soon!
ReplyDeleteHey... no complaints at all about moving out of the ICU in such a short time. We spent most of our hospital stay there! The step down unit is one step closer to getting her home, where she will heal so much faster. Babies always do better at home. :)

ReplyDeleteOur whole family has been praying for yours and especially for Grace! Btw, Vada has those same leggings! We brought them with when she had her heart surgery as well, but our rooms were so hot that she couldnt wear anything. I look forward to seeing grace heal and become energized with her new heart. She is beautiful and she is strong.

Sorry she's not feeling well right now, but I'm so glad the surgery was successful. I hope she continues to speedily recover and you can all leave this behind.

Just read a book in which a whole congregation of folks actually prayed for a sick child to poop. It worked! I am certain that all of the prayers surrounding this little bundle will work too...course if we'd all just stop staring and give a girl some privacy, maybe she could work on 'something'. Love you! JJ ps Thought for sure there'd be a comment from her Grandma G...gas is her specialty.
