Home Alone

Moms are awesome, and Jenni is no exception. I already knew that, but today it was reinforced when I spent my first full day alone with Grace. Here’s how it went down:

9:21a – Mommy leaves for work. Daddy’s work also begins.

9:24a – The cute lump over my shoulder slowly gets a little heavier. Grace is asleep. Do I dare try to move her to her crib or enjoy the peace?

9:40a – Operation Crib Move commences.

9:52a – Operation Crib Move a failure.

10:05a – OK, so this was worth her waking up for. For the first time, Grace rolled from her back onto her stomach! She couldn’t get her right arm out of the way to completely make the turn, but she was proud of herself and stayed there for about five minutes, making lots of victory noises.

10:27a – Operation Crib Move, take two. I feel like the guy from the Hurt Locker. Slowly, slowly.

10:41a – KABOOM!

12:01p – Open letter to Pottery Barn: You make good cribs and all, but they apparently don’t compare with the “human mattress” as Grace has proved for the past hour. And for the record, that has to be one of the best feelings in the world.

1:11p – We just got back from the zoo, which consisted off me acting out every animal that appears on Grace’s outfit today. The elephant was a big hit, she wasn’t sure what to do with the lion, and she was a little freaked out by the monkey. She will probably be totally terrified when she sees them fly on the Wizard of Oz.

3:07p – Mealtime is always an adventure if all you’re armed with is a bottleful of breast milk and optimism. After a few false starts, and some arm swatting, she drinks away until her she gets that glassy-eyed “I’m full” look.

3:59p – Is 87 degrees too warm to go for a walk? After 15 minutes of preparing for the big adventure, within 3 minutes outside, Grace decides, without leaving any doubt, that 87 is, in fact, too warm.

4:58p – Yay! Mommy’s home! And yes, she’s awesome!
