Look, Up In The Sky

Grace likes to be held like any infant but she also likes to spend some time alone on her "soft spot". Unfortunately, once there, she doesn't have the motivation to do anything but lay there, and look around, waiting to be entertained. When her patience wears thin, we hear a sharp, short "wah" letting us know she's tired of waiting for the entertainment to begin. We'd like her to be a little more active, and while it's still sinking in to actually move to grab a toy, we know that she will play with toys if they're above her, especially if they make some noise.

So we strung together a couple dozen plastic rings between the back of two chairs (so glad we decided on slotted back dining room chairs). Attached to the ring are some of her favorite noise makers: the flutterbug, the sleigh bells and a little rattle. It still takes Grace a bit to realize that the toy floating a few inches above her face is indeed grab-ready, but she eventually gets the hang of it, even if it's from an accidental move.

Here she is in complete discovery mode...

  1. It's your blog stalker, here. Her little noise before she reaches up makes me laugh. I can't believe how much bigger she looks! Why don't we live closer? :(

  3. She's growing!! :)
We bought Liddy a playmat (super cute btw) that has lights and music as well as several toys that hang from it. It wasn't cheap but it has always entertained her, even when all she did was stare at herself in the mirror on it and watch the lights. Might be an excellent Christmas present for wee Gracer! :)

  4. I love reading about Grace's every achievment and milestone - we are all clapping and cheering along side you! Thank you for your posts we are so proud of Grace, and thank you also for the smiles and joy it brings us to get a flavor for what Grace is up to! As far as the entertainment of children, well, you just never stop trying to create "safe" places for fun and exploration I'll just say! You go from slotted dining room chairs with toys carefully strewn across, to decked out basements with PS3 and loads of good snacks at the ready! God bless you guys!! xoxoxox Kaelin & Family
