Graceland Pharmaceuticals Inc.

New clocks have been installed in Graceland.

We are slowly getting used to our new routine of eating/feeding, sleeping, fawning over and dispensing medicine. It's a wonder the sleeping part happens with Grace's current medicinal regimen:

We are mastering the art of getting all the meds in. We hit the occasional jackpot when she's happily working the pacifier, and we can sneak the medicine in the side of her mouth. We've tried the nurses' trick of pinching her cheeks together so she can't spit out the medicine with her next tongue thrust, but she's quickly gotten wise and has learned to pause all breathing and swallowing until said cheeks are released, at which time the medicine is also released right down her chin. This, of course, all done with the twinkle in her eye that promises to keep us parents on our toes for years to come. Greenpa, as a newly retired biostatistician, has offered to run the numbers on the amount of medicine we can expect will actually stay in her mouth. The odds are not in our favor.

  2. This only works if the medicine tastes somewhat good and the baby likes to suck on things... but when we need to give Amelia medicine, we take the nipple part of one of her bottles, put the medicine in that and let her suck on it. She sucks it right down this way. When we tried squirting it in her mouth she would always spit it right back out.

I'm so glad she's out of the hospital and doing well!

  4. Oh our Precious Gracie Grace, would you please remind your mommy and daddy that, "Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, the medicine go down, the medicine go down. Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. In a most delightful way." What have they been thinking? I think they are recovering from their hospital stay, too and their brains are just not thinking clearly. Shall I send you a five pound bag, no a ten pound bag of sugar from California? I will. I will because Precious Grace, you are my forever hero.

Your pictures with your guardian dog Sophie are the best. You know wee one? Man's best friend?
No, Precious Gracie Grace's best friend. Everyone loves Grace and with that added medicinal sugar, Sophie is sure to lick more than just your fingers.

You still make me cry. You go through so much and you still come back stronger than ever. You remind me of why I love our Jesus so much. Amazing Grace.

This too shall pass....keep up the good work and spread sheets!

  8. That looks too familiar! My husband put a shelf above our changing table just for the medications! (That's where we keep all of them, except the refrigerated ones)It was overwhelming at first, especially when I was giving her two injections everyday but I kept telling myself that these were saving her life and eventually it all became second nature. I am glad that your all home and doing well.

  9. Jenni you are so organized. I know you have to be. Don't they make medicine flavoring for baby medicine? Pictures of Gracie and Sophie are great. My favorite is the one where she's telling Sophie all about her day - even with hand gestures!! And yes, Gram Aggie-just realized that backwords it's "Aggie Gram!" you do look great and totally in your glory -
    Love, Shannon

  10. While the meds are impressive Grace's fans, at least this one, would love to see an example of the art of 'cheek pinching' and the resulting chin dribble.
